Keral Vellala Maha Sabha and Ponkunnam

Keral Vellala Maha Sabha and Ponkunnam
There was one Muthaliyar Madom near Chirkadavu Mahadevar temple .
There lived a priest of Vellalas. This priest was brought by the Head of the Karippal (Mulavelil) family.  Vellalas in Chirakadavu took active role in the construction of the temple. The flag mast was constructed by Chittadi Pillai and the Sothern Gopuram was built by Vettuvelil  Pillai. Later Chappamattom family built a new Gopuram in memory of Paramewaran Pillai
The Manakadu Devi in Chirakadavu east is the Para devtaha of Vellalas in Chirakadavu. Thengalloor and Kadampanadu families had   rights over the temple. When it was in dilapidated Vellala community in Chirakadavu took initiative to renovate the ancient temple.
The Karippal (Mulavelil)  family had the leadership of a section Vellalas in Chirakadavu .Nadakkavil (Thenganamattom) had leadership of other section. The two groups had disputes in between.there were several “onnamtheathi koottams”(  1st day meet on every Malayalam month). The funds were misused.
Later the defects were identified and Vellalas in Chirakadavu decided to unite. On 10th Medom (Pathamudayam) of 1110  (AD 1935) they met in Kamalalayam the residence of P.N.Pillai. Thus Chirakadavu Vellala Samajam  was formed with Adv Mulavelil N.Neelakanta Pillai as the President, Mulamkunnathu N.Padmanabha Pillai as Secretary and P.N.Pillai as the Treasurer. 5 more persons were added to the Committee. This committee called for a meeting on 22-23 Sept 1957 .In that meeting KVMS was formed.
Divan Bahadur  M.Vaidyalingam Pillai, Vaikom P.Neelakanta Pillai, K.P.Gopalkrishana Pillai (Ranni),Vakil Kavukattu Krishna Pillai, Vakil S.Ramantha Pillai etc attended the meeting.
